History
Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started in the year 1919. The company was originally founded by an engineer Anton Raky. Raky was a pioneer in modern drilling and oil drilling technology. The company's original name was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.
During the year 1937, the cornerstone for SMAG was laid when the manufacturing facility was purchased by the Salzgitter Group for constructing drilling machinery. During 1986, the company obtained the grab product division from Peiner AG. Soon after, Peiner was developed into an international brand in the following years. Presently, SMAG is the world's market leader, utilizing grabs for global cargo handling applications, agriculture and waste disposal.
