Types of Hydraulic Cranes
Amongst the most common cranes in the construction business is hydraulic cranes. They are used to build everything from freeway overpasses and roadways to buildings and skyscrapers.
There is a large range of crane models, sizes and styles available on the market. There are many different types in order to serve a variety of different purposes in the business. Choosing the best type of crane is very crucial for making sure that the material can be moved efficiently and safely to the place it has to get to in order for the construction process to commence.
Truck Cranes
Normally, truck cranes have 2 different cabs. One cab is for controlling the crane and the other is for driving the truck when the unit is in transport mode. These cranes are very useful for building locations where a crane is needed in many different locations for the duration of the build. This is because of the fact that the crane is capable of being easily driven from one location to another.
Cranes can also be transported to different construction sites on the road because they drive themselves, which eliminates the need for extra transport vehicles. Being able to travel on their own greatly lessens transport expenses at the end of the day.
One disadvantage of a truck crane is that it is not stable enough sitting on tires alone in order to be able to lift the major loads which a hydraulic crane could handle. Hence, so as to fix this problem, outriggers could be extended from the deck. The outriggers utilize hydraulic pressure in order to slightly lift the truck off of the ground, making it balanced and stable.
Crawler-Mounted Cranes
Crawler cranes feature large tracks on the bottom of the crane. These huge tracks are like the ones seen on other construction machinery like backhoes and bulldozers. The tracks enable the crane to move around a construction locations successfully.
