The forklift is an important piece of equipment in most companies which operate warehouses, distribution centers, storage handling and industrial facilities. This great equipment, the forklift is constructed of various parts, including the important carriage, the power source, the engine and the wheels. Lift trucks normally have a variety of attachments too. The following are some of the most essential forklift parts.
Lift Truck Engine - the forklift truck is made with a power source at the back of the machine. Different types of forklift truck have different types of engine which need varying power sources. For example, a forklift with an internal combustion engine can have any of the following as its source of power: LP gas, CNG gas, diesel or gasoline. Electric motor forklifts receive their power from fuel cells or a battery.
Frame of The Truck - the base of the forklift truck and the most essential of all the lift truck parts is the truck frame. This forms the equipment's core. All other parts of a lift truck are connected to the base, like for instance the overhead guard, counterweight, axles, mast and wheels. Hydraulic fluid and fuel tanks could also be part of the frame assembly.
Counterweight Lift Truck Components - the counterweight is what allows the machine to be balanced while carrying heavy loads. This component is made of heavy cast iron and is connected to the backend of the lift truck. The counterbalance balances the frame of the truck to prevent it from tipping over when a load is being lifted or carried on the front. In an electric lift truck, the heavy lead-acid battery offers balance and can function as part of the counterweight.
The Cab Area - The cab is also known as the operator compartment. Lift trucks will sometimes have closed cabs whilst others will be open to the air. There are many components located within the cab for operating the forks. The cab has such essential parts like for example the operator controls, steering wheel, pedals, seats, levers and switches. The dashboard has operator readouts.
