Basic Fuel Types of Forklifts
Forklifts are powered lift trucks that are used in a wide variety of industries to move heavy materials and items. Forklifts are tough and dependable machines which are essential tools in warehouse and construction environments. Forklift units vary depending on the kind of fuel which is utilized to power the lift truck and the kind of work setting.

Electricity
Electric forklifts are recommended for work sites which have limited ventilation since they produce no exhaust fumes and are relatively quiet. They are designed to be powered by large, industrial-strength batteries. Because the electric forklift batteries need charging, the worksite would require a charging station. The batteries are tough and could be re-charged up to 1,500 times before they have to be replaced. The charging station must be situated in a ventilated area and include an emergency eyewash station and an acid spill kit.

Propane
Forklifts powered by liquid propane have several advantages over electric and diesel powered equipment making them quite common in industrial and warehouse environments. Propane engines are a lot cleaner than diesel-powered units. There is no down time needed to recharge an industrial battery, and the cost of electricity is more than the cost of propane. A lift truck propane tank can be refueled easily and quickly by changing out the empty tank with a full tank. Normally an off-site supplier refills the empty tank, making refueling really efficient and safe.

Gasoline and Gas
Gasoline and Diesel forklifts are the equipment of choice for outdoor applications and rough terrain. They are commonly found on lumber yards and construction sites. Their disadvantages comprise odorous exhaust, fairly high fuel costs and relatively high maintenance requirements. Their advantages comprise a longer lifespan compared to other units and reliability in tough conditions. Diesel and gasoline units would need to be refueled at a supply station on site which meets health and safety regulations.
