Propane cylinders take up little space and they could be kept either inside of a storage area or outside of a facility. It does take some time to switch out a propane cylinder, though, it still does require knowledge of safety standards like the Occupational Health and Safety Administration or OSHA and also needs operator training in order to be conducted safely.
Internal combustion forklifts are faster and easier to refuel, than electric lift trucks, but the internal combustion or IC engines create major air-polluting emissions and are extremely noisy.
NARROW-AISLE FORKLIFTS
The Class 2 forklifts includes numerous types of lift truck that are specially made to be utilized in narrow aisles. The regular storage aisles are 12 feet wide, and this easily enables a counterbalanced forklift to turn in the aisle and put a load away. Normally, the very narrow aisles are roughly 5.5 to 6 feet wide, while narrow aisles are 8 feet wide. These narrow aisles require specialized lift trucks that are capable of putting away cargo that are small enough to turn on a tight radius or without any turning at all.
Reach trucks, turret trucks and order pickers are 3 of the most common narrow-aisle trucks. The differences between these trucks are discussed below.
Narrow-Aisle Reach Lift Trucks
The original narrow-aisle lift truck is considered to be the conventional reach truck. These equipment do not require a huge counterweight and are therefore, small enough to turn in narrow aisles. Instead, stability is provided by the outrigger arms that extend in front of the lift trucks. However, depending on the storage configuration, these outrigger arms could prevent the trucks from getting close enough to the storage rack to deposit and retrieve loads. To be able to overcome this situation, a pantograph was designed. The pantograph is a reach truck which is designed with a telescoping device. This allows forks to easily and concisely reach into storage locations.
The ideal environment for a narrow-aisle forklift is a place which is clean, has good lighting, and has good traffic flow, well-maintained floors, as well as a sufficient turning aisle.
